Nurse RN Forum – Want to leave nursing, advice please: [QUOTE who=”Student in Malvern, Pennsylv…
Thanks for the reply…Are most of these “foreign nurses” BSN-equivalent or just cheaper labor ? I’m confused why hospitals requiring BSNs for “magnet” status would hire these nurses if that is not the case? Also, I thought there was now a “cap” in the USA regarding hiring foreign nurses as we have an obvious glut of unemployed here? Again, sorry for your misfortune–hey, I’m just a student and I’m feeling it already :( My nursing scholarship finally kicked in for the semester, so I can buy my books…my HHA job barely pays my bills (car broke down $ 1,234.00 repairs) so I now officially have $ 34.00 in my checking account until next pay week! Ramen noodles anyone?
Well, here’s my two cents (and it is worth probably less than that). As an undergrad some years back I worked part time in a computer science department as an assistant program coordinator. The first thing I noticed was nearly all of the engineer and computer science students and professors were from Asia, especially India. Now, having seen first the education system for children who are not from upper middle class families, I understand why America has a shortage of employees to fill careers that require biology and the like. American children are simply not getting properly educated from early on. You have to be upper middle class to get a quality education. I have found with my income combined with my spouses, we can achieve a good education for our ONLY child. If we had more, this might not be achievable at this point in our lives.
